Earliest Illustrated Christian Manuscript -- Discovered in a remote
Ethiopian monastery. Previously assumed to date from about 1100 CE.
New radiocarbon dating conducted in Oxford suggests they were made
between 330-650 CE. They may transform our knowledge about the
development of illuminated manuscripts & throw new light on the
spread of Christianity into sub-Saharan Africa. Preserved in an
isolated monastery, set among mountains at 7,000 feet.
